Growing up calabrese in Australia

This is the presentation that Vincent Morfuni KC, gave to Diaspore Italiane conference that ran from December the 5 to the 7th, 2024 in Genoa. The conference was co-hosted by Genoa and the Museums of Italian emigration and the Galata Museum as well as museums in Brazil and COASIT.
The presentation titled “growing up Calabrese in Australia—contested the negative stereotype of Calabrese in the media in Australia. The paper outlined, amongst other things, the projects undertaken by ACCA since its inception in order to contest that negative stereotype.
The conference saw an excellent turnout, with around 90 presenters sharing their expertise over the course of three enriching days. What was particularly exciting was the heightened interest in ACCA sparked by the presentation. Vincent had the opportunity to engage in numerous insightful conversations with delegates from the United States, Canada, and Italy, further underscoring the widespread enthusiasm and curiosity surrounding ACCA across international borders.
